Kindergarten classrooms at St Peter's school

Rationale and planning

images/meeting_staff.jpg
St Peter’s school was established in 2004 by the Catholic Church and adopted by the government in 2009. It has 274 pupils in Kindergarten and Primary, and 11 teachers. The school has six primary classrooms but no dedicated accommodation for its two kindergarten classes, which are currently taught in the school canteen. The school has a large site with a sports field and ample land.

We visited in February 2025 and met headteacher COW and his colleague EMS. They asked for our help to build a two-room kindergarten block. The community started construction a few years ago but ran out of money; the foundations were laid and are reportedly in good condition and usable (we will verify this before relying on them).

The school has no water supply and pupils fetch water from a nearby stream. A borehole is something the school would very much like, but their immediate priority is the kindergarten building.

The school has a small internally-generated fund (IGF) arising from fees paid by food vendors on the school premises.

What we propose

We will build a two-room kindergarten classroom block, making use of the existing foundations. The proposed site for the new building is shown above. This will give the kindergarten classes a proper learning environment and free up the canteen for its intended purpose. We will also provide new furniture for the classrooms to replace the worn-out desks and benches currently in use.

If funds allow, we will also provide a borehole to give the school a clean water supply.
